Pre-Production

The first stage of production is also the most important because this is where you generate the ideas. All the preparation work that goes into the production itself starts here.

The ability to carry off a production efficiently depends on its pre-production. There are several elements to this stage of production, including research, remote surveys, hiring staff and talent, writing proposals, making a production schedule, acquiring equipment and even getting funds.

The extend of pre-production depends on whether you're producing a news package, documentary, corporate video or feature film. For instance, it's not necessary to storyboard a news package, but if you're producing a PSA, then a storyboard will be hugely beneficial.
