Chapter 2 – The Producer in Pre-Production

Chapter 4 – The Director in Preproduction

  • Section 4.1 – How a Director Prepares
  • Section 4.2 – Communication and Scheduling

Chapter 16 – The Director in Production

  • Section 16.1 – Multi-camera Control Room Directing
  • Section 16.2 – Single-camera and Digital Cinema Directing

Thursday, 31 AUGUST

  • Review from reading assignments  - students will be called on to answer questions based on readings
  • Instruction - learn how to operate the studio equipment
  • Cameras and Composition

  • Lecture: Producing and Writing for Broadcast - the Television Script format and the different story formats that you may use

Thursday, 7 SEPTEMBER

  • Practice directing
WEEKEND READING:

Review Chapters 1, 2, 4, & 16 - it's helpful to go back and review the material so it settles into your long-term memory. Then take a short break and start new readings.

  • Begin Studio Interview Exercise

Thursday, 14 SEPTEMBER

  • Finish Studio Interview Exercise
  • QUIZ #1 - will cover Chapters, 1, 2, 4 & 16
  • DISCUSS NEWS BREAK EXERCISE
  • ASSIGNMENT - Per the handout, write a newsbreak script with 4 VO's (Readers) that you can use in your newsbreak exercise. These readers should be between 20-30 seconds long - read them out loud to help you polish the wording.    All students must submit scripts on Tuesday, 19 September
